# Overview

Sailors are anyone holding a Ship's [$SHIP governance token](https://docs.sail.fun/sail-protocol/ships/ship-token), whether they acquire the token via:

* Contributing ETH during the Ship Building Period
* Acquiring the tokens OTC
* Purchasing from AMM pools (if liquidity is available)
